Sermons by Rod Bunton (Page 8)
Precedents for Judgment
2 Peter 2:5-9 Peter continues to recall times when God fulfilled his promise to judge sinners. Pastor Rod Bunton dives deeper into two more precedents that demonstrate God’s punishment on those that oppose Him.
The Rebellion of Angels
2 Peter 2:3b-4 Peter introduced the topic of false prophets in this chapter and, in this passage, he begins to teach that although they may seem to prosper, God will ultimately punish them. Pastor Rod Bunton looks at Peter’s first example where not even angels were allowed to go unpunished when they rebelled.
An Overture to False Prophets, Part 2
2 Peter 2:1-3 Peter describes the prevalence of false teachers, their effect on the church, and their motivation. Pastor Rod Bunton concludes this introduction to the existence and agenda of false prophets.
An Overture to False Prophets, Part 1
2 Peter 2:1-3 After establishing the truths of reliable doctrines from God by way of reminder in Chapter 1, Peter turns to false doctrines. Pastor Rod Bunton begins as Peter does with an introduction to the existence and agenda of false prophets.
The Sure Word of God
2 Peter 1:19-21 Although Peter’s amazing eyewitness experience was powerfully convincing, it didn’t make God’s Word more reliable when he preached it. Pastor Rod Bunton shows how God’s Scripture is trustworthy on its own because it comes from Him.
Eyewitness to the Truth
2 Peter 1:16-18 Peter, nearing the end of his life, wanted to be sure that his readers could discern between the truth and false teachings after he was gone. Pastor Rod Bunton examines Peter’s assertion that he was proclaiming the truth because of his unique eyewitness account.
Joy of Contentment
Philippians 4:10-20 The Christmas season usually brings high expectations: joyous family gatherings, scrumptious meals, and perfect gifts; and yet reality often falls short. Pastor Rod Bunton visits a passage from one of Paul’s prison epistles to remind us of the joy of true contentment.
Stirring You Up By Way of Reminder
2 Peter 1:12-15 Much like today, Peter’s audience of believers were expert forgetters, distracted by the events of life to a point of losing track of the qualities that we are to pursue. Pastor Rod Bunton shows us that this behavior was not new, as even Old Testament witnesses to mighty miracles were quick to forget; but the Lord provided reminders to them then and to us today.
Pursuing Holiness, Part 2
2 Peter 1:5-11 Peter lists qualities that we should pursue on our journey to holiness. Pastor Rod Bunton concludes his teaching from this passage, reviewing each of the qualities that lead to an effective and fruitful life, full of confidence in our spiritual condition.
Pursuing Holiness, Part 1
2 Peter 1:3-5 Peter explains that, through our salvation, God provides all that we need to pursue holiness. Pastor Rod Bunton begins a passage that describes those Christian qualities that we should make every effort to pursue in order to have an effective and fruitful life.
Prepared for Sanctification, Part 2
2 Peter 1:3-4 Pastor Rod Bunton continues to explore this passage, showing how God provides all that we need to change our life: making the gospel attractive, allowing us to know the truth of the savior, to grow more like His divine nature, and to shield us from our own sinful desires.
Prepared for Sanctification
2 Peter 1:3-4 Peter assures his readers that after our justification by God, we can experience the process of sanctification knowing that we are supplied with everything we need. Pastor Rod Bunton looks at that amazing promise and compares it to many ways where we try to provide our own solutions to become sanctified.
